8 Tips for Avoiding Acne

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

There are a lot of things you can do to avoid the dreaded acne breakout. Taking care of your skin is not only important, but a lot easier than it sounds. Here are some ways to help keep your skin  healthy and acne free.

1      As obvious as this may sound, Wash your face. Pimples come from pores clogged with dirt and sweat, so wash your face with soap and warm water at least twice a day. Using warm water is important because the heat opens your pores making them easier to unclog.

2     Washing your hair daily can help reduce the oil that builds up on your face and around your hair line. Keeping your hair out of your face can be very helpful in avoiding acne. If you have long hair put it back at night so its not resting and accumulating oil on your face at night. Avoiding all types of hair products can be helpful as well.

3.     Men sweat a lot at night making your pillowcase a gold mine for sweat and oil. Changing your pillow case at least every other day can help avoid an oily face. Overnight oil from your face is left on your pillow and letting that oil pile up each night can irritate acne.

4-      Taking multivitamins can be very helpful in regaining clear skin. Sometimes acne is a sign that something is wrong on the inside and your body reacts by producing excess oil that clogs pores. Taking a multivitamin can help balance your body’s natural production of oils.

5-      Include Chromium and beta-carotene in your daily diet. What you eat effects everything about your body including your skin. It is important to eat healthy in order to maintain clear skin.  Beta- carotene contains Vitamin A which strengthens the tissue of the skin and can prevent acne.

6-      Avoid excessive alcohol and smoking. These things aren’t necessarily causes of acne but they can dry out your skin making it more prone to breakouts. Alcohol causes dehydration and it is important for healthy skin to keep  hydrated!

7-      Drink 8 full glasses of water a day. Drinking that much water a day can do wonders for your body in many ways, including your skin. Water carries waste from your body and cleanses. If you don’t enjoy drinking water there are a variety of flavored waters out there!

8-      Your hands are full of dirt and oil from everything you touch. Keep your hands off your face! It may be hard to resist but picking squeezing and scratching your breakouts in most cases leads to more pimples.
